Winterrim (an introduction) è una raccolta di brani, che ripercorre la vita artistica dei primi dieci anni degli Autumn's Grey Solace. La compilation mette in evidenza la continua crescita del gruppo, l'abbellimento delle armonie vocali di Erin Welton, la ricerca del suono del polistrumentista Scott Ferrell e il livello sempre più sofisticato delle composizioni.
L'album apre con Nifara, un brano ricco di atmosfere morbide e di un vocalismo visrtuoso ed avvolgente; seguono Eternal Light e The Unshakable Demon, avvolte da un'aura di malinconia.
Si passa poi dai suggestivi A Soul Ensnared e Still, a Mistify, brano dalle atmosfere eteree e sognanti.
In Dormant la voce di Erin Welton tocca vertici di puro delirio onirico, Treasure Box, invece, è forse l'episodio più graffiante e ritmico.
L'album chiude con Angelspeak, caratterizzata da una cascata di note chitarristiche sospese.
Il cd è uscito in due versioni: la prima contiene otto brani, la seconda contiene un brano in più, Nifara ed è venduto come bonus cd assieme all'ultimo album Divinian.

Winterrim (an introduction) is a collection of songs, which revisits the artistic life of the first ten years of Autumn's Grey Solace. The compilation highlights the continued evolution of the group, the embellishment of the vocal harmonies of Erin Welton, the search for the sound of the multi-instrumentalist Scott Ferrell, and the increasingly sophisticated level of the compositions.
The album opens with Nifara, a track rich of soft atmospheres and a virtuoso and enveloping vocalism; follow Eternal Light and The Unshakable Demon, surrounded by an aura of melancholy.
Then it passes from the striking A Soul Ensnared and Still, to Mistify, track with ethereal and dreamy atmospheres.
In Dormant the voice of Erin Welton touches tops of pure delirious dream, wheras Treasure Box is the more biting and rhythmic episode.
The album closes with Angelspeak, characterized by a cascade of suspended notes from the Scott's guitar.
The cd was released in two versions: the first contains eight songs, the second contains an additional track, Nifara and is sold as a free bonus cd with the latest album Divinian.
